According to a recent NAR (National Association of Realtors) Home Buyers & Home Sellers profile survey for 2013, here are the most common sources First Time Home Buyers used for the down payment on there new home purchases. Looks like savings is still the largest component. What's odd is that 7% of borrowers actually said they received a loan from a friend or family member for the down payment. The bad part of that is that lenders do not allow loans for the down payment... Some borrowers are also taking advantage of zero down programs like the USDA home loan & government down payment assistance programs to come up with the required down payment needed to purchase.
